Frive vs Prepped Pots: Cheaper Pots or Bigger, Fresh Meals?

by Frive Team | Updated 20th September, 2026 | About Frive

TL;DR: Prepped Pots is the cheaper option: a pot costs £4.99 on its own, or £3.79 a meal on its 14-meal plan, against £7.90 for a Frive meat meal. What the difference buys: our median main meal carries 44g of protein and 548 calories, against 30g and 399 for the Prepped Pots meals we checked, and we are 100% UPF free. We score 4.4 on Trustpilot; Prepped Pots scores 2.9. Prepped Pots is still trading after a change of ownership this summer. Choose it for low-cost pots in the freezer; choose us for bigger, fresh meals.

Prepped Pots and Frive both sell cooked, high-protein meals you heat in minutes, but they're built for different jobs. Prepped Pots makes smaller, freezer-friendly pots at a low price; at Frive, we cook bigger meals, delivered fresh and made 100% UPF free. So it comes down to price per pot against what's in it.

Below, we look at how both brands compare across ingredients, nutrition, meal choices, delivery, pricing and more.

Deep dive: head-to-head comparison

Here's how they compare where it matters.

Meal quality and ingredients

You can't judge ingredients from a photo, and it's where most ready meals cut corners.

Frive

We are 100% UPF free. Every meal is chef-prepared from scratch with 100% natural ingredients and no artificial ingredients, using whole cuts of meat (never mixed or processed meats) and only olive, avocado and sesame oils. Our beef, chicken and turkey are Red Tractor approved, our fish is ASC assured, our leafy greens are UK-grown and our herbs are locally sourced. And every recipe is nutritionist-approved, so there's nothing on the label you'll need to look up.

Prepped Pots

Prepped Pots puts the full ingredients and nutrition for each pot on its product pages. The labels on several of its chicken pots say they're "produced for Muscle Food using EU & Non-EU Chicken". We couldn't find a UPF-free claim on its website; if that matters to you, it's worth asking Prepped Pots directly.

That openness is a real plus. You can read every Prepped Pots label, with nutrition per 100g and per serving, before you order.

Frive is best if you want Red Tractor meat and meals that are 100% UPF free. Prepped Pots suits you if a low price per pot is your priority.

Nutrition and protein

Calories are the easy bit. Protein, and how much of a meal you're actually getting, decide whether it keeps you going.

Frive

This is where we pull ahead. Across the 43 main meals on this week's menu, the median carries 44g of protein, from 16g to 56g, and 39 of them carry 30g or more. Taken meal by meal, that's 9.0g of protein for every 100 calories, in a median meal of 548 calories. It's a proper dinner, built so hitting a protein target doesn't mean adding a shake.

Prepped Pots

Across the 23 Prepped Pots meals we checked, the median carries 30g of protein, from 20g to 50g, and 13 carry 30g or more. That's 7.5g of protein per 100 calories, in a lighter meal: a median of 399 calories. Its Precision Prep meals are the biggest, with up to 50g of protein.

Salt is the same, a 1.6g median for both, and fibre is close: 5.6g against our 5.8g. If you're counting calories, a lighter pot may suit you better.

Nutrition per meal
Measure Frive (43 main meals) Prepped Pots (23 single meals)
Protein, median 44g 30g
Protein, range 16g to 56g 20g to 50g
Meals with 30g of protein or more 39 of 43 13 of 23

Calories, median 548 399
Salt, median 1.6g 1.6g
Fibre, median 5.8g 5.6g

Frive is best if you want a full-size meal with more protein. Prepped Pots suits you if you want a lighter, lower-calorie pot.

Menu variety and plans

The right menu depends on whether you want a quick bite or your whole week covered.

Frive

We put 40+ main meals on the menu, and it changes every week, so you're not eating the same dinners on repeat. Alongside them you'll find breakfasts, snacks and desserts, sides, protein smoothies, juices and shots, so the whole day's covered. Our plans cover high protein, weight loss, low carb, balanced, vegetarian, vegan and GLP-1, and you build yours around your goals in a few clicks.

Prepped Pots

Prepped Pots groups its meals into ranges: FitPot, Precision Prep, Kitchen Classics and high-protein pizzas. It also has a page of meals it describes as GLP-1 friendly. Pots are mostly chicken, beef and pork dishes with rice, potato or pasta.

If you fancy a protein pizza, though, that's one thing we don't make.

Frive is best if you want vegetarian, vegan or halal plans and a menu that changes every week. Prepped Pots suits you if you want quick pots and the odd protein pizza.

Delivery, storage and flexibility

A meal service only works if it fits your week: when it arrives, how long it keeps and how fast it's ready.

Frive

Our meals arrive fresh and chilled and keep up to seven days in the fridge, so one delivery covers your week. Every main meal can be frozen too, though they're at their best eaten fresh. They're ready in about three minutes in the microwave, or 30 to 40 minutes in the oven if you'd rather. We deliver four days a week, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and you can skip or cancel on our website or in the Frive app.

Prepped Pots

Prepped Pots delivers chilled, Monday to Saturday, to England, Scotland and Wales, with some areas limited to certain days. Pots arrive with at least three days' shelf life and are made to go in the freezer, then heat in the microwave: about 4 minutes from chilled or 7 from frozen for a typical pot (800W). They aren't for the oven. You can pause, skip or cancel any time.

Prepped Pots wins on delivery days, with six to our four, and its pots are built to live in the freezer.

Frive is best if you want fresh meals that keep up to a week in the fridge. Prepped Pots suits you if you'd rather keep a stack of pots in the freezer.

Pricing and value for money

Price per meal is only part of it. Portion size and delivery decide what you actually get for your money.

Frive

Our pricing is simple: you pay per meal, and the price is the same whatever plan you build. A meat meal is £7.90, vegetarian and vegan £7.80, and seafood £8.80. Our 6-day plan with one meal a day is six meat meals for £47.40, delivered free because it's over £40: £7.90 a meal. Make it two meals a day and it's 12 meals for £94.80, still delivered free. With a median 44g of protein, that's about 18p per gram of protein. New customer discount available.

Prepped Pots

Prepped Pots costs much less per meal than we do. A pot costs £4.99 on its own, and larger meals and pizzas £5.99 to £6.99, with a £30 minimum order. Plans start at £4.49 a meal, with savings of 4% on 7 meals, 11% on 10, 15% on 14 and 20% on 20: a 14-meal plan costs £53.12, or £3.79 a meal. Prepped Pots' help centre puts delivery at £5.99.

Per meal, you get less: a median 30g of protein and 399 calories, against 44g and 548 from us. For the wider picture, here's what meal prep delivery really saves you.

Prepped Pots is cheaper per meal at every plan size. Frive costs more, and gives you a bigger meal with more protein, made 100% UPF free.

Is Prepped Pots still trading?

Yes. Prepped Pots was taking orders on its website when we checked on 6 October 2026. Here's what changed over the summer.

In July 2026, Muscle Foods Limited, the company named in Prepped Pots' and Muscle Food's terms at the time, entered administration. In August 2026, its administrators sold the business and assets to Boparan Private Office. Prepped Pots' terms now name a different company, Muscle Foods 2026 Limited.

If you have a question about an existing order or subscription, contact Prepped Pots' customer service team. We're not involved and can't help with it.

The pivot: why Frive is worth the extra

Prepped Pots does cheap and convenient well, and there's a place for a pot in the freezer. But if a pot leaves you hungry an hour later, or you care what's in it, you want more from your food: a full meal, more protein and ingredients you don't have to second-guess.

That's what we make. Frive is natural healthy eating made easy: chef-crafted, nutritionist-approved meals made from 100% natural, whole-food ingredients, and we are 100% UPF free. We launched in 2016 as Lions Prep, rebranded as Frive in 2024 and have delivered more than 25 million meals.

Why Frive is the brand to beat

100% UPF free: every meal is made from 100% natural ingredients, with no artificial ingredients and only olive, avocado and sesame oils.

A proper meal: a median 44g of protein and 548 calories, against 30g and 399 for Prepped Pots.

Red Tractor meat: our beef, chicken and turkey are Red Tractor approved, and our fish is ASC assured.

Fresh for a week: meals keep up to seven days in the fridge, with four delivery days a week.

Rated by customers: 4.4 on Trustpilot from 13,133 reviews.

If the lowest price per meal is what matters most, Prepped Pots costs less than we do. Where we win is the size of the meal, the protein in it and what goes into it.
